Two Students Injured During Fairfield County School Bus Crash, Police Say

Two schoolchildren were hospitalized following a school bus crash which also injured the driver in Fairfield County.

It happened just after 3 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9 in the Town of Fairfield on Mountain Laurel road near Stroll Rock Common, 

First responders reported the school bus struck a tree and the bus was transporting four Fairfield School children at the time of the collision, said Fairfield PD Lt. Edward J. Weihe.

Two of the children sustained facial lacerations and were transported to Bridgeport Hospital. The bus driver also sustained unknown injuries and was transported to the hospital as well, he added.

The engine compartment of the bus caught fire and was put out on scene by first responders.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time as crash investigators are still on the scene.

Police are working with the school safety unit, and Fairfield Public Schools to coordinate with parents.

The DMV School bus safety division was notified and responding to assist FPD with the investigation.
